Como
refleja su título, Miguel
Will intenta describir la relación,
al menos ‘espiritual’
o ‘creativa’ entre Miguel
de Cervantes y William Shakespeare.
Aunque no existen pruebas de que
tal relación existiese
desde un punto de vista personal,
el autor de esta obra ha utilizado
la existencia de otra obra, "Cardenio",
basada en el Quijote, que los
estudiosos de Shakespeare dan
por perdida, para imaginar qué
sucedería si el Teatro
del Globo llevara a escena al
noble hidalgo de Cervantes. Se
necesitaría, por supuesto,
un actor que hiciera al mismo
tiempo de noble y de bufón,
una combinación exacta
de elevados ideales y errores
estúpidos.
As
the title implies, Miguel Will
aims at describing the relationship
existing, at least 'spiritually'
or 'creatively', between Miguel
de Cervantes and William Shakespeare.
Despite the lack of evidence for
such a personal relationship,
the author refers to the existence
of the play "Cardenio"
-based on "Don Quixote"
and given up as lost by Shakespearians-
to picture what would happen if
Cervantes' nobleman were taken
to the Globe Theatre. It would
definitely require an actor to
play the nobleman and the joker
at the same time, with an exact
combination of high ideals and
stupid errors.
