Penélope Cruz meets Carmen Maura in “Volver”, to be filmed on Madrid and Castilla la Mancha.

El Deseo productions confirms that “Volver” (“Coming back”) is the name for the film Pedro Almodovar will begin to shoot in July on Madrid and Castilla la Mancha. But there are more news: Penelope Cruz and Carmen Maura will share starring roles. Although a lot of information about this film has been already published, this is the first time El Deseo openly talks about it.

Besides Cruz and Maura, there are four important roles in the screenplay. But Almodovar has not chosen all the actors yet. We will tell you their names soon.

“Volver –says Almodóvar- is a bridge between Michael Curtiz’ Trouble Along the way and Frank Capra´s Arsenic and Old Lace, all mixed up with surrealist naturalism as in my own fourth film ¿Qué he hecho yo para merecer esto?. The film has the colour of the working class neighbourhoods, where immigrants from any corner of Spain share their dreams, life and destiny with racial and ethnic groups from all around the world. In the core of this social labyrinth, three generations of women survive wind, fire, even death, by goodness, courage and an unlimited joy of life.”

Lola Dueñas, Blanca Portillo and Chus Lampreave will also be in 'Volver'.
Lola Dueñas, Blanca Portillo and Chus Lampreave will join Penélope Cruz y Carmen Maura in the casting of 'Volver', the next work of Pedro Almodóvar, waiting for July to be filmed on Madrid and Castilla La Mancha.
Other news coming from Cannes film festival confirm that Volver will be distributed by Sony Picture Classics in the United States, by Pathé in France, United Kingdom, Benelux and Switzerland, and by Gaga in Japan. Focus Features Entertainment holds the rights for International management.
